Question #5 Parts I and II-due 2/3

Part I

You have now read enough of your book to determine its strengths and weaknesses.  Name some of the techniques the author has used to produce tension, suspense, and engagement.  These might include foreshadowing, dialogue, introduction of new characters, and twists to the plot.  What is your favorite section so far?  Why?  Be specific and use examples in your response.

Part II

Choose three characters in your book.  Describe the roles they play in the story.  Make predictions of their outcomes for the end of the book.  Later you will comment on these predictions.

Part one- I absoulutley love the book so far, I really like how the author has a lot of foreshadowing for the small parts but when it comes to major or important parts it comes out of nowhere! I also like how the author's purpose seemed to make every single page important or interesting. My favorite part so far in the book is after Cole was attacked by the "Spirit Bear." Definatley not because of the violence though. This is my favorite part because Cole is helpless and starts to notice that, he really wasnt as cool as he thought he was and that he needed to change. Part two- Cole is the main character, he plays a very important part and i think that in the end he will apologize to everybody and move away from his bad ways. Peter- Peter is the guy Cole beat up for telling on him breaking into a hardware store. Now Peter has speach problems and other health issues. As of now I think that Peter will forgive Cole for his choices. Cole's Father- Coles father is why I think Cole has gotten into so much trouble latley. Cole thinks his dad or mom doesnt love him because his dad often drinks to much and ends up being really strict and often hurting cole. His mom also drinks and she doesnt do anything about it. I think in the end his dad may possibly end up going to circle justice or may lose custody of Cole.

He has used flashbacks to why cole has been sent to the island. He also vividly describes the scenery to make you feel like you were there. Part 2 The three main characters are Cole Matthews, Garvey and Cole's parents. Cole is banished to the island so to get away from hurting people and I think in the end he will change and not be as violent. Garvey is Cole's probation officer and stays with his until they drop him off and I think in the end he will respect Cole more. Cole's parents pretend to love him but actually hate him because they hurt him a lot and I thick they will actually feel sorry for him in the end.

Maddy, did you do Quest. 4? For Question 5, please be more specific as to examples the author used by naming them, and then labeling them. Part II is good.... please check spelling and punctuation!

Part two- cole- The main character, the bad guy, I predict he will actually end up changing. and that he will try running away. dad- he plays the bad dad. he is always drunk and beats cole. I think he will just be the same throughout the story. - cole's probation officer. always trying to find a way to make cole better. I predicthis actions will start helping him.
